Bylaws of Beta Eta Chapter
of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Incorporated
Beta Eta Chapter shall be in compliance with the current bylaws of California Alpha Delta Kappa, Inc. and Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Inc.
ARTICLE I - NAME
The name of this organization, whose corporate charter was granted on January 6, 1964, in Roseville, California, shall be Beta Eta Chapter of California Alpha Delta Kappa, Incorporated, hereafter referred to as California Alpha Delta Kappa, a state unit of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Incorporated.
ARTICLE II – PURPOSE
The purpose of Beta Eta Chapter California Alpha Delta Kappa shall be to promote the purposes set forth in Article II of the current bylaws of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Inc. In addition to these purposes, Beta Eta Chapter shall plan an effective, continuing membership program.
ARTICLE III - MEMBERSHIP
Refer to Article III in the current Bylaws of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Inc. and California Alpha Delta Kappa for information on membership, transfer, resignation, reinstatement, termination, Omega Chapter, and dues, fees and assessments. See also Chapter Policies and Procedures Manual for information on dues, fees and assessments.
A memorial service for Omega Chapter shall be held at International and State Conventions for members who become deceased during that biennium.
ARTICLE IV - CHAPTER ORGANIZATION

ARTICLE V - SUSPENSION AND REVOKING OF CHARTERS
Refer to Article V in the current Bylaws of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Inc. for information on suspension and revoking of charters.
ARTICLE VI - INTERNATIONAL EXECUTIVE BODIES

ARTICLE VII – OFFICERS
Refer to Article VII in the current Bylaws of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Inc. and California Alpha Delta Kappa. See also Chapter Policies and Procedures Manual.
The election of the Chapter Officers shall be held at the May meeting in the even numbered years.
Election shall be by ballot, and requires a majority vote of the members present to elect.
The elected Chapter Officers shall be President, President-Elect and/or Vice-President,
Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, Chaplain, and Sergeant-at-Arms (opt.). These Officers and the Immediate Past President shall comprise the Executive Board.
A Nominating Committee shall be selected no later than January of even-numbered years, and shall present a list of candidates at the April meeting. Additional nominations may be made from the floor if consent of the nominee has been obtained first.
ARTICLE VIII – COMMITTEES

Standing or special committees shall be appointed by the President as authorized or required by International and State bylaws. These committees may also be authorized by the Chapter Executive Board or by a majority of members present at a regular meeting.
Standing committees shall be in place prior to the planning meeting for the new biennium.

ARTICLE IX - INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION

Beta Eta Chapter is in the Southwest Region, one of the seven regions of AΔK.

ARTICLE XIV – DISTRICTS

California has four districts : Marina, Northern, Southern, and Valley. Beta Eta Chapter is in the Northern District, one of the four districts in California. Each district has a Council of Chapter Presidents.
Northern District meets in the fall each year.
ARTICLE XV - CITY/AREA COUNCILS OF CHAPTER PRESIDENTS

Beta Eta Chapter is in the Sierra Council of Chapter Presidents.

The chapter Bylaws Chairman shall send, for certification, a current copy of the chapter bylaws, which must be in compliance with the International Bylaws and California Bylaws, to the chairman of the California Bylaws Committee by October 15 of even-numbered years.

Chapter bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the members present at the meeting to vote. All members must have at least thirty (30) days to consider the proposed amendments for adoption before a vote can be taken. An amendment becomes effective at the close of the meeting at which it has been adopted.
